Renewable Energy within the just transition paradigm; A critical look into the societal impacts and related policies.

Renewables energy play a critical role in clean energy transitions and is estimated to account for ca. 15% of the forecast growth in renewable energy demand. The main aim of the just energy transition is to reduce the amount of GHG emissions to Net Zero by 2030 for everyone. The net Zero emissions would reduce the rate of global warming from 2 to 1.5ºC. In 2023, global greenhouse gas emissions were estimated to be 51.8 tonnes of CO2 equivalents. this indicates increase in GHG instead of reduction that supports lack of or none-adherence to Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) energy policies globally. Thus, the gap in implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) policies in climate change indicate that the uptake of the Paris Agreement globally is not promising hence need for a comprehensive national climate action plan. Just Transition policies shape Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by incorporating equity, social protection, and justice into climate action at global, regional, and local levels.  In depth information and actionable practices that hinges towards Net Zero Scenario needs to be taken. Within this context, the agricultural sector presents significant opportunities for renewable energy deployment through biogas from livestock waste, and biomass. We therefore ask the question, is integration of wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, geothermal, hydrogen and nuclear power into energy economy impactful according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)?.    The session will further examine the central role of education, skills development, and knowledge systems in enabling an informed, inclusive, and policy-responsive renewable energy transition. Universities, middle level training institutions, research hubs, and community learning platforms will be positioned as critical enablers of the just transition through curriculum reform, transdisciplinary research, professional training, and public climate literacy that bridge the gap between policy ambition and implementation capacity.
