Context
The upcoming policy engagement plenaries will explore opportunities at the science-policy interface, fostering dynamic dialogue between scientific research and policymakers. These discussions aim to address the challenges of integrating science into policy processes and highlight collaborative actions to strengthen evidence-based policymaking, particularly in sustainability science.
A central focus will be on the role of scientists in supporting the policy cycle—from agenda-setting and formulation to implementation and evaluation. By embedding scientific evidence into each stage, scientists can help ensure that sustainability policies are grounded in robust data and adaptive frameworks. This approach not only strengthens the science-policy interface but also amplifies scientists’ voices in shaping decisions that affect sustainable development across Africa.
The plenary will also highlight the efforts of the Future Earth and the Future Earth Africa Hub in championing policy engagement initiatives, enhancing alignment and synergies between diverse stakeholders and the broader Future Earth community. By raising awareness of ongoing policy activities, the session aspires to create a shared understanding of strategies to bridge science and policy for sustainable development across the continent.
